As a housing landlord our main role is to: - manage over 12300 council homes
- assess the housing needs of people that apply to us to be housed
- help advise people about their housing options, particularly if they are threatened with homelessness
- deal with a range of tenancy issues including tackling anti-social behaviour and neighbour nuisance
- take ownership of our housing estates
- work with partners to support our customers and sustain communities
As affordable housing is in short supply the council has developed strong partnership arrangements with local housing associations to ensure that customers needing social housing have more choice about where they can live. Information on shared ownership (part rent/part buy) for people who cannot afford to purchase outright is also available on this website. A large number of properties are available to rent in the private sector. Most local estate agents now have properties to let and some operate a property management service. Home buyers can obtain details of available properties from local estate agents, in local newspapers and on national websites such as RightMove or Your Move.
